Press Release - Olympic Freshers' Fair for Barnsley College Students
Nearly 5000 students at Barnsley College took part in the annual Freshers’ Fair in the College’s new building. This year the event was themed around the 2012 Olympics to get student excited and engaged with the games taking place in London next year.
The Fair promoted the different enrichment and volunteering activities available to student whilst studying at the College. Each stall was themed to one of the seven Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
At the event students also got to the chance to speak to representatives from organisations including local fitness centres, charities and health services. Student could also be pampered at the nail bar by beauty students, have a go on the bouncing castle and take part in a dance off for a chance to win tickets to see for Paddy McGuiness. Other activities included sumo wrestling, limbo and balloon modelling. Entertainment was provided by a steel band and DJ.
Organiser Louise Welbourn and her team was thrilled the event was a huge success “I am really pleased so many students came along to the Fair as it gives them the opportunity to get involved in things and meet new friends outside of classes. It has certainly been the best Freshers’ Fair to date.”
