PRESS RELEASE - Barnsley College Student Selected for England Squad
Barnsley Sixth Form College student Beth England has been selected to play for England. Barnsley College Football Academy player Beth, who currently plays for Women’s Doncaster Belles Super League Squad and is on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, was scouted and selected to trial for the England Women’s U19 Squad.
After a very successful trial, Beth made the final squad and travelled to Amsterdam to play against Holland, competing in her first match for the National team. Beth was brought on in the second half and put England 1-0 up with her first touch of the ball. Scoring with a half volley just inside the 6 yard box, Beth certainly had a positive impact on the game and created other chances from crosses she delivered into the box, plus assisting with the second goal for the squad.
Whilst in Amsterdam, Beth and the squad competed in two other fixtures plus training sessions along with recovery sessions in the swimming pool the day after each fixture. Beth will now attend a fitness test in the new year which will then hopefully secure her place is the next training camp with England at the end of January.
This is a great achievement for 17 year old Beth who is looking forward to travelling to Europe and representing Barnsley College and South Yorkshire. She said: “Scoring was one of the greatest feelings I have experienced in football, I was proud to represent my country and I'm looking forward to my next opportunity'”.
